"1948 - THE SILICOSIS AFFAIR, THE STORY OF AN INJUSTICE"
" 1948 - The Silicosis Affair, The Story of an Injustice", a documentary by Bruno Carrière which finally reveals the tragedy that shook the miners of Saint-Rémi-d'Amherst, their families and the entire Canadian province of Quebec in the 1940s. A powerful and touching film, where emotions and historic events merge into a gripping story.
In March 1948, reporter Burton LeDoux publishes an article in Relations magazine highlighting the ravages of silicosis, an industrial disease that caused the death of dozens of miners in Saint-Rémi-d'Amherst, a town in the Laurentians soon to be known as " The Village of Widows". The article creates a shock wave.
In his documentary, built upon interviews with historians and witnesses, Bruno Carrière makes us relive the tragedy of the families that were decimated by silicosis. In its cinematic narrative sequences, residents from St-Rémi and the surrounding areas dressed up in period costumes to reenact scenes from this historical tragedy, taking us back to the years of « La Grande Noirceur », "The Great Darkness". The film tells the story of the first major industrial disease scandal in Quebec.
